She competed in organizations like EliteXC and Strikeforce, where she built a reputation for her striking skills and toughness. Carano retired from MMA with a professional record of 7–1, with her only loss coming against Cris Cyborg in 2009 for the Strikeforce Women's Featherweight Championship.
